Rose || A Beauty+Full Daily Ritual

Why Rose? For years I rejected the rose, near perfect bouquets of identical buds wrapped in clear plastic, I found them a sort of artificial beauty, sterile and cringy. So predictable from a lover, too formal and flawless for a soul that yearned for the wild and the scent, hardly fragrant. But how’d I come to lose my love for this beauty, it hadn’t always been this way. I spent many summer days as a kid at my grandmother's, admiring her roses. I would delicately pull the largest deep red outer petals and hang them from my gold stud earrings, adorning myself with the flowers gave me glimpses of what I dreamt feeling like a woman might be some day. I can remember tearing petals and crushing them into my cheeks and lips, hoping they’d impart some of their hue on me. And I wasn’t alone, Roses have been revered for hundreds of years, records show them being used by the Romans and the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra  (I knew I was onto something.) Known as “nature’s magic potion” for a reason, you’re going to want Rose in your daily life.

*Interesting little fact, it takes tens of thousands of rose blossoms, picked as they are unfolding in the early hours of dawn, to yield just 1 ounce of true rose essential oil. This is what makes rose oil one of the most expensive essential oils, currently selling for more than $1,000 USD per ounce.

In walks Rose Hydrosol, distilled from the Rose at the highest level of purity. Hydrosols are the aromatic remains after the steam distillation process occurs. They are an excellent compliment to any skincare ritual because unlike pure essential oils, they are gentle enough to be used directly on the skin. Our Rose Water Toner is a 100% pure botanical hydrosol, smells just like a fresh rose garden and brings a sense of well-being and peace to the senses.

Rose is known for naturally containing a complex array of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and has excellent emollient properties for moisturizing dry skin; it also offers antiseptic and astringent properties to treat acne prone skin, as well as anti-inflammatory properties that help treat redness and inflammation. It serves beautifully as a gentle toner for all skin types, especially benefiting dry, sensitive and mature skin. Traditionally used in sacred ceremony, rose hydrosol, or rosewater, restores skin's radiance and youthfulness and I think we can all use a little more of that.

And if all that isn’t enough for you, roses extraordinary aroma is nothing like the “artificial rose fragrances” you’ll find at the perfume counter, it is virtually true to the aroma of fresh rose petals. Well known for its ability to provide balance to the body, mind and spirit. Emotionally, Rose is both invigorating yet calming. A good dose of aromatherapy when mindfully dealing with grief, depression, stress and anxiety reduction. Simply inhaling is known to lower the concentration of cortisol (a stress hormone) in the body. I highly suggest a ritual of misting in the air or on your face and body or soaking in a bath salt blended with rose petals to calm the mind.
